CLAREMONT — A five-month roadway improvement project is scheduled to begin along Washington Street in Claremont next week.

On Monday, the New Hampshire Department of Transportation will start repairing the intersection of Washington Street, aka Route 11/103, and Bowen Street. The DOT contracted out Weaver Brothers Construction from Bow, N.H., for the project.

The project, which is expected to last into October, includes extending the median islands on the east and west sides of the intersection and building a new driveway across from Bowen Street with access to stores including AutoZone and Verizon. Crews will also improve drainage and paving and update the intersection to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act.

Over the course of the summer, drivers can expect alternating two-way traffic on Bowen Street, which also leads to the Claremont Walmart, and one lane open at all times on Washington Street. Lane closures will only be held during non-commuting hours, which are between 8:30 a.m. and 3 p.m.
