WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — One of the people arrested in Windsor County’s ‘largest’ fentanyl bust pleaded guilty to heroin possession this week.

Shannon Barry, 32, of Tunbridge, was sentenced to six months to a year in prison Wednesday after pleading guilty to carrying less than 200 milligrams of heroin.

Barry, along with Royalton men Randall Green, 54, and John Barbera, 51, was arrested in February after a traffic stop on Interstate 91 in Hartland. Police seized almost 3,000 bags from the car that contained a mix of heroin and fentanyl and were worth nearly $30,000, Windsor County State’s Attorney David Cahill said at the time. He noted that 70 milligrams is enough for a trafficking arrest, but that state troopers found 1,000 times that minimum.

He told VtDigger it was the largest shipment of fentanyl he’d seen in Windsor County.

Green and Barbera pleaded not guilty in February to charges of trafficking fentanyl and being habitual offenders. Barry, who was sitting in the back seat of the car during the traffic stop, pleaded not guilty to only a fentanyl trafficking charge. As part of her plea deal, that charge was downgraded to possession before Wednesday’s sentencing.
