LEBANON — A 36-year-old woman remains hospitalized after she crashed her vehicle through a fence and onto an athletic field last Thursday morning, according to police.

The operator of the vehicle, who has not been identified, was in “pretty bad shape” and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, Lebanon Police Chief Phil Roberts said this week.

Initial interactions with the driver indicate that drugs or alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, he said. The vehicle the woman was driving had New York State license plates.

No arrest has yet been made, but the incident remains under investigation, Roberts said.

Roberts said people in the area reported “they heard a vehicle engine revving and it sounded like they were driving extremely fast and then a loud crash.”

There were no reported eyewitnesses to the crash, Roberts said, but a preliminary investigation indicates that the operator of the vehicle “was driving fast down Shaw Street and crossed Bank Street,” then plowed through a metal fence and down the embankment onto the athletic field below.

The sound of the crash drew the attention of people nearby, who called 911, according to Roberts.

The driver was outside the vehicle when police arrived, Roberts said.
