WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A 42-year-old White River Junction man has been charged with sexually assaulting a minor after he was arrested in a raid by Hartford police at his apartment in White River Junction on Friday morning.

Joseph “JoJo” Vaillancourt was ordered held without bail after he pleaded not guilty to two felony counts of lewd and lascivious conduct with a child and one misdemeanor count of criminal threatening at his arraignment in Windsor County Superior Court.

Vaillancourt’s arraignment came about six hours after Hartford police descended upon his third-floor apartment at 27 North Main St. and took him into custody. At 5 p.m. on Friday, police vehicles were still parked outside his apartment building.

Vaillancourt is accused of assaulting a girl under the age of 16 who is known to him in September, according to the probable cause affidavit prepared by Hartford police in support of the charges. The alleged incident happened at Vaillancourt’s apartment.

The minor told police that following the alleged assault Vaillancourt accused her of letting people come into his apartment and steal things, and threatened, “he was going to shoot me, and kill me, put me in an alleyway, just bury me.”

Friday evening, Hartford police issued a statement that an additional search warrant led to police seizing “a criminal quantity of marijuana, suspected methamphetamine and 12 firearms” from Vaillancourt’s apartment.
