WEST NEWBURY, Vt. — A fire that investigators believe began in a garage destroyed a home in West Newbury, Vt., on Saturday morning.
Four area fire departments responded to a two-alarm fire of a manufactured home at 308 Critter Crossing, near Hall’s Lake, in West Newbury at 7:33 a.m. on Saturday, reported John Renfrew, chief of the Newbury Volunteer Fire Department
The occupants of the residence got out safely and there were no reported injuries to occupants or fire crews, Renfrew said.
The fire “had a pretty good head start by the time we got there,” Renfrew said in a Monday interview.
He said a preliminary investigation indicates the fire began in the garage, although the cause of the fire has not been yet established.
Fire crews deployed 1,400 feet of hose to pump water from a tanker drawing from Hall’s Lake nearby, Renfrew said.
Fire departments from Newbury, Wells River, Haverhill and Bradford responded to the scene. Newbury’s fire department was the last to clear the scene at around 4 p.m., Renfrew said.
Newbury property records show the property at the address is owned by Ramon and Martha Smith.
