Weekly summer farmers market to launch in Bradford, Vt.

BRADFORD, Vt. — Bradford is the latest town to add an outdoor summer farmers market.
Beginning June 7, a market will take place every Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at Denny Park on Main Street in downtown Bradford through the end of September. More information can be found at thespaceonmain.org/markets.
The weekly market grows from the monthly artisan markets hosted by The Space on Main, a nonprofit community co-working space that is led by Monique Priestley. Depending on the month, there would be more than 20 vendors and 150 attendees.
“We would definitely have an off month once in a while, but for the most part it felt really well attended,” said Priestley, a Democratic lawmaker who represents Bradford, Fairlee, West Fairlee in the state House of Representatives. “The vendors asked if we could try it out weekly.”
Bradford residents usually have to travel at least 20 minutes to Lebanon, Norwich, Chelsea, St. Johnsbury, Vt.; Littleton, N.H.; or Montpelier to attend a weekly market, Priestley said. Up to 15 vendors and live music are expected at the Bradford market each week. One of those vendors is Margaret Loftus, who owns Crossmolina Farm in West Corinth with her husband, Jonathan Durham.
“There isn’t another farmers market that’s particularly close to Bradford,” said Loftus, who serves on the board of the Chelsea Farmers Market. “There are other great farm stands, but they’re a little different. I think it fills a need.”
She said Wednesday nights are a good fit.
“Having an option to do a market midweek, I think people really appreciate that,” Loftus said. “I think (the market) is just another way to help Bradford become a place that you think of to go do something, not just to drive through and go to Hannafords.”
