Wallace K. Ballou

South Royalton, Vt. — Wallace K. Ballou, 87, died on Sunday, Oct. 8, 2017, at the Mt. Ascutney Health & Rehabilitation Center in Windsor, Vt.

He was born Dec. 21, 1929, in South Royalton, Vt. the son of Harold K. and Viola (Smith) Ballou. He attended school in Bethel, Vt. before working for many years at the Elizabeth Copper Mine in South Strafford, Vt. until it’s closure in 1958. He also worked for Windsor Minerals in the Talc Mine until he retired in 1992.

In August of 1949 he married Hazel E. Morrill of South Royalton. They lived most of their married life in South Royalton where they raised their family. Hazel died on May 25, 2005.

He was a life time member of the N.R.A. He enjoyed reading, studying history and working.

He is survived by four sons, W. Charles Ballou of Brookfield, Vt., Douglas Ballou of Middlebury, Vt., Dale Ballou of White River Jct., Vt. and Carl Ballou of Royalton, Vt.; a daughter, Catherine Dean of Fall Branch, Tenn.; 10 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter; four brothers, Philip Ballou and Harvey Ballou both of South Royalton, Paul Ballou of Elizabethton, Tenn. and Jerald “Fat” Ballou of Mt. Airy, N.C.; two sisters, Carol Day of White River Jct., Vt. and Catherine Mousley of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He was predeceased by his wife, Hazel Ballou; a son, Victor Ballou; three brothers, Wayne Ballou, John “Jack” Ballou and Harold “Jr.”; and a sister, Caroline Ballou.

There will be no public calling hours. A graveside funeral service will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017, at 11 a.m. at the Branchview Cemetery in South Royalton.
