Vital Communities Wins$20,000 Grant

White River Junction — Vital Communities has received a $20,000 grant from the Working Lands Enterprise Board, which is run by the state of Vermont to provide funds to businesses and organizations that support the state’s working landscape.

The funds will be used to support the budding Upper Valley Farmer Cooperative.

“We are thrilled to receive this funding from the Working Lands Enterprise Board and excited to put it to use for our local farms and food businesses,” said Beth Roy, Valley Food & Farm program manager at Vital Communities.

She said the cooperative will help more than 50 agriculture businesses explore creating a shared facility in the Upper Valley.

“These businesses spent the past year thinking about shared retail space, storage, trucking, processing and other ways to increase their business success together,” Roy said. “Working Lands funds will move us quickly forward.”
