VERSHIRE — In less than 60 days, the Vershire community surpassed its initial fundraising goal of $20,000 for a timber frame pavilion behind the Vershire Town Center building, according to a news release from the campaign organizer.

As of Tuesday, the project had raised $28,086. That success means the project is in position to attract a 2-to-1 matching grant of $40,000 from the Vermont Department of Housing and Community Development’s Better Places program.

The planned 30-by-42-foot outdoor pavilion is expected to make community events more accessible and less weather-dependent. It is slated to go near the town’s recreational fields, playground, skating rink and pizza oven, as well as the town offices, the Vershire Town Center building and the historical society.

The surplus money raised is slated for contouring and landscaping the area around the pavilion and improving access from the parking lot, the release said.

The pavilion is scheduled to be raised in June with the help of TimberHomes Vermont, which has a shop in Vershire; local contractors and community members.
