WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — A 33-year-old Vermont woman who likened herself to Depression-era outlaw Bonnie Parker has pleaded guilty and been sentenced for her role in a 2021 crime spree across four Vermont counties, including Windsor and Orange.

Amanda Conant, formerly of Randolph, has been handed down a four-to-10-year state prison sentence, suspended except for two years, and placed on probation for 10 years after pleading guilty to burglary into occupied homes, stealing an SUV, drug possession and violating her conditions of release, according to court records.

She also was ordered not to consume alcohol or illegal drugs, to submit to warrantless searches, screening for substance abuse and to complete a restorative justice program.

Other charges, including assault and robbery, possession of stolen property and impeding police, were dismissed under the plea agreement, court records show.

Because Conant received 373 days of credit at the time of her sentencing and is currently receiving earned time — and providing she abides by the conditions of her plea deal — she could be released from custody later this year, according a spokesperson with the Department of Corrections.

Conant, along with a male accomplice, Kevin Bent, committed a string of property crimes in spring 2021, including stealing a Grand Jeep Cherokee from a residence in Pomfret on which they spray-painted the words “Bonnie and Clyde 2021.” She was arrested several days later in East Randolph after attempts to elude police.

Bent, 35, of Randolph, pleaded guilty in 2022 to charges that included burglary, impeding a police officer and unlawful mischief. He, too, was sentenced to a total of four to 10 years in state prison, all suspended except two years, and was placed on probation for 10 years, according to Vermont court records.

His current status with the Department of Corrections could not be determined immediately on Thursday.

Conant had been out on bail on the 2021 charges when she was arrested and charged with robbing a convenience store in Northfield, Vt., in February 2023, and ordered held in pretrial detention.

Last November, Conant pleaded guilty to federal drug charges and received a nine-month sentence, which she is serving concurrently with her state prison sentence.

Conant is incarcerated at Chittenden Regional Correctional Facility in South Burlington, according to Department of Corrections records.
