WOODSTOCK — A 39-year-old Vermont woman pleaded guilty for her role in the assault and burglary of a 64-year-old Bridgewater man at his home on New Year’s Eve nearly three years ago.

Tessa Hazen received a deferred 18-month sentence on a felony conviction of accessory aiding in the commission of assault and robbery with a weapon and a six-month to 12-month sentence, fully suspended, on a conviction of accessory before the fact, unlawful mischief, in Windsor County Superior Court on Nov. 22, according to court records.

Hazen and a male accomplice, Orlando “Angel” Cruz, entered a man’s home on Stevens Road in Bridgewater near midnight on Dec. 31, 2021. Cruz struck the man with a hammer and, along with Hazen, took several items from the victim’s home, including two muzzle-loader firearms and slashed his vehicle tires before fleeing, police said at the time.

Three days later, Rutland City police apprehended and arrested Hazen and her accomplice.

Cruz pleaded guilty in the case and was sentenced in February 2023.
