Rutland, Vt. — Verla Margaret Brown, 85, of Rutland died Wednesday, Oct. 4, 2017, at Rutland Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Charleston, Vt. May 11, 1932, the daughter of Ralph and Emma (Alexander) Bowen.

She attended local schools in Charleston and received a nursing degree.

Verla married David Broom in 1956. She later married Calvin Brown in 1969.

Verla and her mother operated Twin Spruce Rest Home at the family farm in West Charleston.

She loved her family, her Church, gardening, reading and country music.

Survivors include many close nieces, nephews and relatives, Carol Perry of Lyme, N.H. Sharon Kimball of Cornish, N.H. Sheila Maceherone of Tryon, N.C., Diane Whipple of West Charleston, Emily Blake of Windom, Maine, Gary Bowen of West Charleston and many more nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her parents, two sisters, Virginia Lange and Twiler Moulton, by two nephews, Gerald Bowen and Bruce Bromley.

There are no visiting hours.

Graveside services will be held Saturday Oct. 14, 2017, at 11 a.m. at West Charleston Village Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clifford Funeral Home in Rutland.
