NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Upper Valley Nighthawks dropped their third NECBL game in their last four on Sunday, falling to the North Adams SteepleCats, 7-2, at Joe Wolfe Field.

The Nighthawks (21-16) struck first in the second inning on an RBI single by first baseman Ronald Evans (UNC Wilmington).

The SteepleCats (18-14-2) pulled ahead in the third inning with four runs against Nighthawks starter Jackson Haga (Liberty). All came with two outs, and all were unearned because of an error by third baseman Gehrig Anglin (Wright State).

The Nighthawks had trouble getting to SteepleCats starter Wilfrido Valenzuela (Bloomfield).

He allowed just one earned run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts in six innings.

North Adams added three runs in the sixth inning off Zane Kmietek (Marist). After a single with runners on first and second, Upper Valley left fielder Alan Roden (Creighton) committed two errors on the same play, which allowed both runs to cross the plate.

The Nighthawks scored one in the ninth inning, as shortstop Luca Trigiani (St. Josephs) came home on a wild pitch, but they were already behind by too much.

The Nighthawks begin the final week of the regular season Tuesday with a road game at the Winnipesaukee Muskrats.
