KEENE, N.H. — Wes Stocken pitched the Upper Valley Anglers 17U baseball team into contention halfway through their New Hampshire COVID Baseball League game on Thursday night, but errors ultimately kick-started host Keene to a 13-3 win at Alumni Field.
Stocken (Hanover High) kept the Anglers (0-3) in a 1-0 game through three innings before Keene broke through. A five-run fourth inning gave the hosts command; four of the runs were unearned thanks to Upper Valley errors. Keene added a three-run fifth and four-run sixth to secure the win via the 10-run rule.
Stocken — who pitched into the fifth with three strikeouts against just one walk — had a third-inning double for one of Upper Valley’s three hits. Ian Hedgepeth (Hanover) singled, Jared Meyette (Newport) reached back three times on a single, walk and hit-by-pitch, and Jon Currier (Lebanon) drove in a run for the Anglers with a bases-loaded walk.
The 17Us have the holiday weekend off and resume play at Weare on Tuesday.
