LEBANON — Two men were arrested last month after an undercover operation showed they tried to meet minors for sex over the internet, according to Lebanon police.

One of the men, Richard Hill, 42, of Cornish, was charged with attempted felonious sexual assault, prohibited use of a computer, and attempted endangering the welfare of a child following the monthlong investigation.

The investigation started in late March, when Lebanon police launched an undercover operation and posted on Craigslist, pretending to be a 15-year-old girl, according to an affidavit written by Lebanon Police Officer Eric Hunter. Hill responded to the post with sexually explicit messages and continued to speak with undercover police over the course of the next month before arranging to meet in early May, thinking he would meet a teenager, the affidavit said.

Police took Hill into custody at the arranged meeting spot outside a grocery store along Route 12A on May 7. During an interview, Hill told police he believed he was meeting a 15-year-old girl and said he had tried to solicit sex from her. Hill was charged and placed in preventive detention, according to a bail order filed in Grafton Superior Court.

Later in the month, police held another undercover operation and arrested David Glenn Farnham, 64, of Randolph Center, on charges of attempted felonious sexual assault, attempted trafficking and attempted sexual assault.

Farnham’s arrest stemmed from a short investigation on May 12, when undercover police again posted on Craigslist, posing as a father trying to traffic a 15-year-old daughter. Farnham responded to the posting with sexually explicit messages, and arranged to pay $200 for sexual contact with a teenager, according to an affidavit written by Lebanon Police Lt. Richard Norris.

Undercover officers arrested Farnham at the arranged meeting spot on Market Street in West Lebanon on May 14. They found him carrying almost $2,000, some of which Farnham said he planned to use to pay for sex acts with the teenager, according to the affidavit.

Farnham was charged and held on preventive detention, according to a bail order filed in Grafton Superior Court.
