CHARLESTOWN — Two people were killed in a Thursday evening crash in Charlestown.

The collision took place around 7 p.m. near Ponderosa Mobile Home Park on Route 12, also known as Claremont Road, according to a news release from the Charlestown Police Department.

Susan Gallant, of Charlestown, was driving her Ford Mustang north when she crossed the centerline and collided head-on with a Subaru Forester driven by Lisa Schneider, of Alstead, N.H., and carrying passenger James Schneider, also of Alstead, an initial investigation indicated.

Gallant, 60, was ejected from her car and pronounced dead at the scene. Lisa Schneider, 38, was also fatally injured and pronounced dead at the scene. James Schneider, 57, suffered serious injuries and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital, police said.

Prior to the crash, Charlestown’s emergency dispatch center received calls reporting the Mustang driving erratically without headlights near Fling Road, according to police.

“Witnesses described the Ford Mustang as driving far to the right side of the road into the breakdown lane then swerving into the southbound lane of Claremont Road,” the news release said.

Shortly thereafter, the dispatch center received calls about the collision.

The crash remains under investigation, and anyone with information is asked to call Chief Patrick Connors or Lt. Jonathan Graham at the Charlestown Police Department, 603-826-5747.
