ENFIELD — A two-alarm fire destroyed a garage and damaged an office building at Chase’s Auto Salvage on Route 4A in Enfield on Friday night.

Fire crews from nine towns responded to a call at about 8 p.m. and battled the fire for about 90 minutes before getting it under control, according to Brian Paine, a dispatcher at the Hanover Regional Emergency Communications Center.

The fire started in the garage when sparks from equipment an employee was operating caught some flammable liquid on fire, according to Enfield Fire Chief Fred Cummings. The employee got out safely, and no one else was on site.

In addition to destroying the garage, the fire caused heavy damage to the office building, Cummings said. Crews cleared the scene at about 1 a.m.
