Concord — Though there were some changes in the vote totals, the outcome of the three Sullivan County New Hampshire House races that were the subject of recounts on Friday did not change.

In Sullivan 6, representing Newport and Unity, the margin of victory for John Callum, R-Unity, over incumbent Virginia Irwin, D-Newport, remained at 30 votes, 1,109-1,079. Callum will join incumbent Skip Rollins, R-Newport, who was the top voter-getter in the two-seat district.

In Sullivan 5, representing Claremont’s Ward 3, Walt Stapleton, R-Claremont, increased his vote total by three and Chad Rolston, D-Claremont, added two votes in the recount. The final tally was 666 to 638 for Stapleton, who replaces Ray Gagnon, D-Claremont. Gagnon did not seek re-election, but was elected Register of Probate for Sullivan County over Republican Timothy O’Hearne.

In the closest recount, incumbent Tom Laware, R-Charlestown, saw his slim victory over John Streeter, D-Charlestown, reduced to seven votes from 10 for the one-seat district. On Election Day, Laware was declared the winner, 835-825. In Friday’s recount, the result was 836-829 for Laware.

Republicans now hold a 7-6 majority in the county delegation of state representatives. An increase of one seat.
