EAST THETFORD — Thetford police are seeking the public’s help with providing any information about “gunshots” that were heard at the intersection of routes 5 and 113 on Wednesday afternoon in East Thetford.

Thetford police and Vermont State Police responded to a 3:35 p.m. report of gunshots heard at the intersection near the East Thetford-Lyme bridge but by the time officers had arrived “the vehicles involved were no longer on the scene,” Thetford police reported in a news release and posted on the department’s Facebook page.

Police asked that if anyone living in the vicinity has video that might have captured a “full-size truck” between the hours of 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. on Feb. 7 and within two miles of the intersection to please call the department at 802-785-2200 or contact Police Chief Michael Scruggs at michael.scruggs@vermont.gov.

Police did not say in which direction the vehicles fled and the East Thetford-Lyme bridge is currently closed for repairs. At least three businesses are located near the intersection — Little Feet Children’s Center, Upper Valley Pediatrics and Hugget’s Mart — but people who work at the child care business and convenience store said they did not hear the gunshots and the pediatrician’s office was closed on Wednesday.
