THETFORD — The Selectboard this week hired a Haverhill resident to serve as interim town manager, replacing Serena Bemis-Goodall, who resigned earlier this month.

Guy Scaife, who was a “top contender” in the search last summer in Thetford’s search for its first town manager, will start on or before Jan. 27, town officials said in a news release on Sunday. Bemis-Goodall resigned from the town manager’s job, which was paying her $72,500, on Jan. 3, saying she had not received the requisite support from town officials. Scaife, who signed a six-month contract, met on Sunday with the members of the Selectboard and Town Treasurer and Town Clerk Tracy Borst, the release said.

Scaife’s interim contract ends in July, with an option for an additional six-month extension to next January. He recently worked as a town manager in Connecticut.
