TUNBRIDGE — Police and fire officials are investigating the cause of a suspicious fire that started early Tuesday morning on Gage Hill Road in Tunbridge.

The home and garage at 908 Gage Hill Road, a property owned by the Estate of Alice Smith, were a total loss, Vermont State Police said in a news release.

They have an estimated value of $250,000, and police are offering up to a $5,000 award for information that leads to an arrest, the release states.

The Tunbridge Fire Department and Vermont State Police responded to the area around 3:45 a.m. after a caller reported a “large glow in the sky.” Officials had trouble locating the fire for about 45 minutes as it was behind a locked gate and down a long driveway, the release said.

The home and garage, located near East Bethel, were fully engulfed in flames when they arrived. Three out buildings on the property had been burglarized, the release said.

The cause of the fire is currently undetermined.

Anyone who may have seen anyone walking or riding ATVs in the area is asked to call police at 802-722-4600.
