Articles of note: There are 10 articles proposing changes to the town’s zoning ordinance. Another article asks whether voters wish to adopt the Sunapee Community Power Plan. Another article would levy an additional motor vehicle fee of $5 to support a municipal transportation improvement fund. A petitioned article would ask the town’s elected representatives to oppose expansion of taxpayer funding for private education. Another petitioned article would confirm the town’s support for the town and state’s current procedures “with regard to ethics, transparency, conflict of interest, and Right to Know request.”
Contested races: Three people are vying for two three-year terms on the School Board: Peter Hoekstra, Tiago Pereira and Linda Tanner. There are no contested Selectboard races.
Budgets and spending articles: The proposed school budget is $14.96 million, up from $14.5 million last year. A separate article asks voters whether they support the cost associated with a new agreement with the Sunapee Teachers Association, including $213,000 in the first year. The proposed town budget is $11.03 million, up from $10.1 million last year. A separate article seeks $250,000 for reconstructing and paving town roads. Separate warrant articles seek $280,000 for a fire apparatus capital reserve fund; $260,000 for a highway and transfer station reserve fund and $121,000 for a town road bridges reserve fund. Another article seeks $200,000 for the town dock and boat launch repair reserve fund.
When, where and how to vote: Ballot voting will take place on Tuesday, March 11 from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the Sherburne Gymnasium, Route 11.
