CLAREMONT — In Friday’s recount for the three seats from the Sullivan 6 New Hampshire House district, the Election Day wins for incumbent Walt Stapleton, R-Claremont. and Democrats John Cloutier and Gary Merchant were upheld.
Stapleton’s win over incumbent Democrat Andrew O’Hearne means the Republicans will have a one-seat majority in the county delegation, 7-6.
Stapleton finished with 2,083 votes and O’Hearne at 2,036 votes after the recount. Cloutier and Merchant, both from Claremont, received 2,243 and 2,110 votes respectively after the recount. Cloutier picked up three votes and Merchant two.
On election day, Stapleton received 2,081 votes to O’Hearne’s 2,032.
Claremont Republican Sean McCarthy was fifth with 1,957 votes, three more than on Election Day. Republican Jeremy Herrell lost three votes in the recount to finish with 1,936 votes.
