Dog perishes in Sunapee house fire

SUNAPEE — A dog was lost in a structure fire at a home on Lake Avenue on Sunday.

The other occupants of the home were able to make it out safely, according to a Monday news release from the Sunapee Fire Department.

The department responded to the fire at around 6:30 p.m. Fire departments from New London, Newport and Newbury, N.H., also responded to the scene.

The fire was contained to the first floor room in which it originated, but the residence sustained severe smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
