Dan & Whit’s, Wilder Gas Stations Robbed

Norwich — Dan & Whit’s was robbed on Wednesday night, police said.

The suspect, described as a white male in his early 30s, about six feet tall, wearing a bulky dark jacket with a hood and wearing sunglasses, entered the store at about 7 p.m. and demanded money from the register.

The suspect did not brandish a gun, but told a clerk he had one in his pocket, police said in a news release late Wednesday night. The suspect fled the store with an undisclosed amount of money.

Meanwhile, police also are searching for an armed suspect who robbed the Wilder Smart Shop Mobil gas station on Tuesday night.

That incident was the second armed robbery on a short stretch of Route 5 this week, though police suspect two different assailants are responsible based on witness descriptions and surveillance video, Hartford Police Maj. Brad Vail said on Wednesday.

Around 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, an armed man entered the station at 906 Hartford Ave. and handed the clerk a bag to fill with cash, Hartford police said in a news release. He then fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash toward Hewitt Street and got into a car that was waiting for him on Wilder Street, according to police.

The suspect is described as a white male who stands about 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs 170 to 180 pounds. He was wearing cargo pants, a gray jacket with a green jacket underneath it and gloves.

Around 1 a.m. on Sunday, the Cumberland Farms at 1167 Hartford Ave. was robbed an armed man. The suspect in that robbery is also described as a white male who weighs about 180 pounds. He stands about 5 feet 6 inches tall.

Vail said Hartford police will increase patrols in the area during the coming days.
