Newport tech center gets two new vans

The Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center in Newport has been awarded a $137,500 a Career & Technical Education (CTE) Transportation Aid grant from the New Hampshire Department of Education, which covered the cost of two passenger vans that can fit up to 15 passengers.

“Teachers can better plan career and industry related activities knowing that transportation will not be a barrier,” Eric Perry, Newport’s career and technical education director, said in a news release. “It is truly a game-changer for our school.”

The technical center has nine programs. Students enrolled in the automotive technology program will oversee any maintenance the vans require. Business and marketing program students Carter White, of Newport High School, and Malachi Caple, of Stevens High School, won a contest to design a logo for the vans.

“It was good working in collaboration with the guys making it, learning how to compromise was important,” Caple said in the news release. “We used skills used in our Business & Marketing Program to communicate, market (Sugar River Valley Regional Technical Center), and negotiate a final design.”
