HAVERHILL — SAU 23 has chosen a new superintendent, who will start July 1.

Dolores Fox will replace outgoing Superintendent Laurie Melanson, who is retiring in June, according to a news release from the district, which includes the Upper Valley towns of Haverhill and Piermont.

Fox comes to SAU 23 having previously worked as a curriculum director at other New Hampshire districts, including SAU 63, the Wilton-Lyndeborough Cooperative School District, and SAU 45, the Moultonborough School District. She has experience in curriculum review, interdepartmental collaboration, professional development and community engagement.

“Dolores is smart, kind, and incredibly hardworking — qualities that make her the perfect fit for SAU 23,” Melanson said in the release.

The district has hired Melanson to serve as a mentor for Fox for the 2024-25 school year.

“I am confident that with the support of our community, who will no doubt ‘show her the ropes,’ she will lead our district with distinction,” Melanson said in the release.

The Bryan Group, a recruitment firm, assisted the SAU in the selection process, which included input from community members.
