Rep. Smith, of Charlestown, reappointed as deputy speaker of NH House

Rep. Steven Smith, R-Charlestown, has been reappointed as deputy speaker of the N.H. House, a role in which he sometimes presides over floor sessions in the chamber.
House Speaker Sherman Packard, R-Londonderry, announced the reappointment last week, and also disclosed others who will fill leadership positions.
Smith, 60, says in his legislative biography that he has lived in Sullivan County for 30 years and works as a Realtor.
He has worked in local factories, mills and foundries, and as a software tester and trainer.
He notes in the bio that he is an Eagle Scout and history buff and that his hobbies include model railroading and slot car racing.
Smith, who was reelected in the Nov. 5 general election, has served in the House for 14 years. He is one of three representatives in a Sullivan County district that takes in Charleston, Newport and Unity.
Packard praised his team.
“I am truly excited to work alongside these dedicated representatives to ensure that New Hampshire remains secure and free,” he said. “Our goal is simple: to make New Hampshire the best place to live, work, and raise a family.”

He also announced that Rep. Fred Doucette, R-Salem, will serve as speaker pro tem; Rep. Jason Osborne, R-Auburn, as majority leader of the Republican caucus; and Rep. Alexis Simpson, D-Exeter, as minority leader of the Democratic caucus.
Republicans hold majority control of the N.H. House.
