New London, N.H. — Regina Lydia Scudder passed away peacefully at the Sullivan County Health Center on Monday, Aug. 28, 2017, as a result of complications associated with muscular dystrophy. She was 71. “Reggie” was born in New York City on Sept. 8, 1945. She was the daughter of Henry and Rose Suk. The Community Church of Little Neck NY enjoyed Reggie’s membership for decades. She grew up in nearby Flushing and later Great Neck and graduated from New York University in 1966 with a bachelor’s degree in accounting.

Reggie then moved to Deer Park, N.Y. as she began her career as a CPA at Arthur Anderson LLP. In the early 1970’s, she transferred to a management position at Long Island Lighting and took early retirement in 1998. In 1967, she married William Monahan and had a son Sean who died unexpectedly in 1992. Several years after her divorce, Reggie married Brent Scudder in 2002 and moved to New London.

She enjoyed all forms of Country Western dancing including square and round dancing and served on the Board of the Bradford Country Squares club. Reggie has sung in Newport’s Area Choir. Carpentry and bobbin lacing gave her pleasure in equal portions. The couple often vacationed at their trailer in the Thousand Islands of NY. Reggie also enjoyed camping in Maine. She loved animals and her soothing voice enticed deer to eat apples out of her hand. Her cookbook collection rivaled that of any chef.

Reggie is survived by her husband, Brent; her step-sister, Ellen O’Brien of Woodbourne, N.Y.; her step-brother, Stanley Batelka of Kansas City, Mo; her nieces, Sarah Evans of Marlborough, Conn., Linda Casey of New Hartford, Conn., Lisa Navin of Simsbury, Conn., Heather Scudder of Wilder, Vt., Meleney Scudder of Glastonbury, Conn.; and nephew, Rodney Scudder of Unionville, Conn.; along with several grand nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017, at 12 noon at the First Free Will Baptist Church in North Sutton, N.H.

In Lieu of flowers, please send checks in Reggie’s memory to The Trinity Bible Church, (“Food Pantry” in the memo section), Route 114, South Sutton NH 03273.
