CLAREMONT — A Friday recount confirmed the previous results in the two-seat Sullivan 8 House race, according to unofficial results.
Republican Jon Stone, a Claremont City Councilor, widened the margin from three votes to 14 in his defeat of fellow Republican Don Bettencourt, of Sunapee, for one of the seats to represent the nine towns in the district, including the Upper Valley communities of Claremont, Croydon, Sunapee and Springfield, N.H.
Stone won, 4,457-4,443, according to the recount. The previous tally had 4,436 votes for Stone and 4,433 for Bettencourt.
Meanwhile with 4,466 votes, Democrat Hope Damon, a political newcomer from Croydon, received the most votes in the race. That marked an increase of 12 from the 4,454 the previous count had recorded.
The vote count for Claremont Democrat Ron Lovett Jr. of 4,179 was unchanged by the recount.
