Reading, Vt. — A 20-year-old Reading man died this morning after his snowmobile went off a groomed trail and struck several trees, Vermont State Police said.

Stephen Titus was riding on VAST Trail 106, about 1.25 miles east of Brown School House Road, in Reading when his snowmobile went off the trail around 9:45 a.m.

Titus was not wearing a helmet, and his snowmobile collided with several trees, authorities said in a news release. Police said the sled was totaled and speed was considered the “primary factor” in the crash.

Anyone with information about the accident was asked to call State Police in Royalton at 802-234-9933.
