RANDOLPH — A Chelsea man faces a drunk driving charge after his car rolled over him after he failed to put in park when he stopped to urinate along the side of the road.

Troopers from the Royalton Barracks responded to a call on Tuesday evening of a vehicle that was off the road in Randolph and a man lying in the roadway, Vermont State Police said in a news release.

Investigators determined that the pickup’s 45-year-old operator was driving northbound when he stopped at the crest of a hill along Chelsea Mountain Road to urinate but failed to put the truck in park. He was run over by the pickup as it rolled across both lanes of the road before it came to a rest in a snowbank along the southbound shoulder, according to the news release.

The driver suffered leg and ankle injuries and was transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center. He was subsequently cited to appear in Orange County Superior Court on April 10.

The driver currently faces two other DUI charges, the first occurring on Sept. 2, when he and his pickup were found off the side of Route 14 in Brookfield, Vt., and the second occurring three days later on Sept. 5, when the same man crashed into another vehicle on Route 12 in Berlin, Vt., according to Vermont state court records.
