FAIRLEE — Vermont State Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying the operator of a vehicle who didn’t stop after he hit and injured a 66-year-old construction worker on Interstate 91 near the Fairlee exit and fled the scene.

Kerry Walling, of Bloomfield, Vt. was transported with neck and back injuries to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center early Wednesday afternoon after he was struck by a vehicle in the northbound lane, according to a news release from Vermont State Police.

Walling was picking up barrels associated with a recently completed bridge project when he was hit, a VSP spokesman said.

The fleeing vehicle was described as a dark mid-size SUV with driver side damage caused by the sideview mirror breaking off. The broken mirror left at the scene by the fleeing vehicle suggests the vehicle make is a Dodge, police said.

Walling’s condition was not known on Thursday.

Vermont State police ask anyone with information about the fleeing vehicle to call the St. Johnsbury barracks at 802-748-3111.
