Police: Pedestrian dies after being hit by dump truck in Newport

NEWPORT — A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a dump truck at the intersection of Central and Sunapee streets in Newport on Wednesday afternoon, according to a news release from Newport Police.

First responders arrived at the intersection near the Richards School playground at about 12:40 p.m. Newport Fire transported the victim to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, where he later died.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, the release said.

The incident is under investigation and anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has relevant information is asked to contact Det. Sgt. Alexander R. Marvin at amarvin@newportnh.gov or 603-853-3232.
