Bradford, Vt. — A Piermont woman was sentenced on Thursday in U.S. District Court in Rutland to five years of probation for defrauding her employer, the Bradford, Vt.-based ARC Mechanical Contractors.

Between August 2016 and May 2017 — when she was fired — Katie Stygles, 29, used the ARC Mechanical credit card about 130 times to purchase products for her company KMS Stables, according to a Thursday news release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Burlington.

Stygles, who was employed as an office manager, used company telephones and computers to complete the purchases, which included tack, barn supplies and products for horses, dogs and other animals.

In addition, she diverted ARC Mechanical customers’ payments into a Pay-Pal account for KMS Stables and used ARC Mechanical’s UPS account to pay to ship goods for KMS Stables.

Stygles’ fraud totaled $70,000. Chief U.S. District Judge Geoffrey Crawford ordered Stygles to pay restitution of $71,583.
