Saco, Maine — Patricia Anne Palmiotto, 61, died Sunday, Feb. 4, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family.

Pat was born July 19, 1956 in Rome, N.Y., a daughter of Vingenzo Palmiotto and Anne Humphrey. Patricia graduated from Shaker High School Class of 1974 and received her bachelors degree from the State University of New York, New Paltz. Pat valued education, both as a teacher and a student. and later earned a Masters in Management from Antioch University New England and a second Master of Arts in Liberal Studies, from Dartmouth College.

Pat had her first, and last, summer romance when she met her future husband Ron Hiser, while spending a summer working in Ocean Park, Maine. They were married Oct. 4, 1980, at the Unitarian Universalist Church of Saco & Biddeford, Maine. They made their home in Westbrook, Maine while Pat taught art in Sanford, Maine. They moved to Hanover, N.H. then Plainfield, N.H., and returned to Hanover when their daughter started school. During this time Pat worked at Dartmouth first as the Director of Training and Development in the Human Resources Department, then as the Director of Student Affairs at the Tuck School and lastly as the Director of the Center for Business & Society until she was forced to leave due to her health in 2015. Pat and Ron followed their daughter Risa to Maine in 2016 where they have lived since.

Pat was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church of Saco & Biddeford, Maine. She served many years on the board of WISE Upper Valley both as board member at large and as the president.

Pat was very active and loved to hike. She and Ron had completed 40 of the 48 four thousand foot peeks in New Hampshire. She loved to play tennis and was a member of CCBA Women’s team for many years. Pat was a member and very active in a book group and loved to read and exercise her mind. She also loved to travel and see the world.

Her life was full of action, achievement, and devoted friends, but her greatest passion was her family to whom she always gave unconditional love. The ‘Palmiotto Strong’ circle was done to American Pie at many a family gathering.

A funeral service will be held 1 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 8, 2018, at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of the Upper Valley in Norwich followed by burial in the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover. Knight Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences may be expressed in an online guestbook at www.knightfuneralhomes.com. A reception from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth will follow the burial.
