RANDOLPH — Authorities have yet to arrest a driver in connection with a high-speed chase through town on Sunday, according to a statement from police.

The chase began when Royalton Police Officer Sean McRae, who was participating in a seat belt-enforcement campaign, observed a vehicle with an inspection sticker violation, according to police.

The vehicle traveled from Randolph Village to Randolph Town, weaving through traffic in an attempt to elude McRae, according to police.

The driver hit a speed of 86 miles per hour in a 35-mph zone on East Bethel Road, according to police. Due to the risk involved, officers discontinued pursuit.

If apprehended, the driver faces charges of excessive speed, careless and negligent operation, and attempting to elude police officers, according to the news release.
