BRADFORD, Vt. — Residents of Newbury and Bradford will gather on Monday at Oxbow High School to reconvene the organizational meeting of the new Oxbow Unified Union School District.

The meeting was adjourned with little action on Feb. 25 in hopes that a judge would delay several involuntary mergers around the state under the state’s Act 46 law, including the merger between Bradford Elementary School, Newbury Elementary School and Oxbow High. The mergers are being contested by Newbury Elementary officials.

The judge declined to issue an injunction, but did not rule on the underlying appeal.

Orange East Supervisory Union Superintendent Emilie Knisley said the organizational meeting at 6 p.m. on Monday is expected to be followed later that evening by a meeting of the transitional Oxbow board, with an official new board to be elected by May 7.

A timeline from the Agency of Education anticipates that a school budget could be warned by the new board on May 8, with a June 10 vote by residents.
