Drug test strips available in Hartford

HARTFORD — Health Care and Rehabilitation Services of Southwestern Vermont, or HRCS, will now provide drug test strips as well as overdose reversal medication at its Hartford regional office.

The strips — which can be used to test for the presence of fentanyl and xylazine in order to reduce the risk of overdose — and the overdose reversal drug naloxone, also known by the brand-name Narcan, can be picked up by all residents of Windsor and Windham counties for free at HCRS’ regional offices, according to a Monday news release.

Offices are at 49 School St. in Hartford Village, as well as in the Vermont towns of Springfield and Brattleboro.

HCRS provides community mental health, substance use and developmental disabilities services in the two counties.

The offices are open Monday to Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Residents can pick up supplies during business hours or call ahead to organize a “more discreet” pickup.

HCRS staff who work in the community also carry Narcan while in the field.

To find more information about HCRS or arrange an alternate pickup plan, residents can go to hcrs.org or call 802-886-4500.
