EAST CORINTH — The COVID-19 pandemic has brought out a lot of strong emotions: Sadness, anger and even some small moments of joy among them.

It’s also inspired people to take up their pens, paintbrushes or other mediums to express themselves.

With that in mind, East Corinth’s Blake Memorial Library is asking people to submit their works of art and written thoughts about the pandemic to an art contest titled “Reflecting on 2020 — Lessons, Frustrations, Silver Linings.”

“I thought it might be a nice way to encourage people to get creative,” library assistant Kimberly Hotelling said.

Submissions can be dropped off at the library at 676 Village Road from 2-6 p.m. Mondays and Wednesdays, or left in the library’s foyer. They can also be emailed to blakemem@tops-tele.com.

Submissions are open now through Feb. 22 and will be displayed at the library as well as online at blakememorial.org.

Throughout the pandemic, the library has held many virtual events. While the art contest will take place online, it may also encourage people to step away from their devices and look at the world in a different way.

“I was thinking of something more interactive other than Zoom so I thought to offer up some kind of activity, something they could create and reflect upon everything that has been going on,” Hotelling said.
