ORFORD — At a floor meeting Tuesday night, Orford voters directed the Selectboard to continue researching the proposed replacement of the High Bridge Road bridge to convert it into a walking bridge.

The direction came in the form of an amendment to a warned article asking whether voters wanted to replace the bridge at an estimated cost of $1.5 million, with the town responsible for 20%, or about $300,000, and the state picking up the remainder.

Voters approved a general fund budget of $1.47 million, up from $1.4 million last year.

In ballot voting on Tuesday, Charles Smith Jr. won a three-year term on the Selectboard.

Smith earned 192 votes as a write-in candidate, beating out P. Chase Kling who earned 106 votes.
