ORFORD — The Orford Social Library has earned a $20,000 grant to put toward accessibility projects.

The grant was awarded by the American Library Association’s “Libraries Transforming Communities: Accessible Small and Rural Communities” program, according to a news release from the Orford Social Library.

The funding will cover updating and regrading the library’s brick pathways and replace a handicap ramp with one that is compliant with the Americans with Disabilities Act. Library staff will also take a class about how to lead community discussions, which they will later do so with residents about ways the library can become more accessible.

“This grant will allow our library to get to know our residents with disabilities better,” library director Laina Warsavage said in the release. “It will help us improve our services to ensure this population feels welcome and comfortable in our space.”
