Orange Residents Set to Vote on Slightly Smaller 2018 Budget

Wednesday, March 07, 2018

Voting to elect officers is scheduled from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Orange Town House on Town House Road. At 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Town Meeting will convene at the same location.

Orange — Residents will be asked to approve a slight budget decrease and several capital reserve funds at Town Meeting this year.

Town officials are proposing a $212,662 budget for 2018, which amounts to a $21,600 decrease from last year’s.

Selectboard Chairwoman Dorothy Heinrichs said there are few changes proposed for the coming year, aside from savings from the town’s switch in trash pickup.

Orange ended its contract with Casella Waste Systems last year and instead chose to drop off household waste at the Canaan Transfer Station, saving several thousand dollars, Heinrichs said.

Voters will be asked to appropriate $2,000 to a capital reserve fund for Orange’s upcoming 250th anniversary in 2019.

Warrant articles also request $6,000 for a highway capital reserve fund, $4,000 for a re-evaluation fund and $10,000 for a road improvement reserve fund.
