NORWICH — The town’s efforts to hire an interim town manager from outside Tracy Hall suffered a setback earlier this month when the Selectboard’s choice turned down the job. Selectboard Chairman Roger Arnold said Monday that the candidate Norwich had offered the interim position to “informed me that they had taken a position in another community and unfortunately was no longer available.”

The Selectboard voted last month to offer the interim job to someone but had declined to release the name publicly pending the arrangement being finalized.

Norwich Planning and Zoning Director Rod Francis will continue serving as interim town manager, which he has been doing since Town Manager Herb Durfee departed in August after Durfee’s contract was not renewed.

Arnold said the goal is to land a permanent replacement to Durfee by February and that at this point, Francis is likely to continue in the interim role until then.
