NORWICH — At the polls on Tuesday, Norwich voters turned down a 10-year property tax exemption for the Norwich Farm Foundation, 942-323.
They also rejected a proposal to eliminate the position of town lister and replace it with a professionally qualified lister hired by the town, 780-467.
They said no to another proposal that would have given the Selectboard the ability to appoint the town clerk, 823-439.
But they supported, 681-574, an advisory article to consider the appointment of a full-time police officer in addition to the three budgeted officers for a total of five, including the chief.
Current Selectboard Chairwoman Marcia Calloway beat Selectboard member Rob Gere for a three-year term on the board, 830-403. Resident Priscilla Vincent beat Selectboard member Aaron Lamperti for a one-year term, 727-500.
Voters approved a $7.24 million operating budget for the school district, as well as a bond for $768,000 for a new pre-treatment septic model and a bond for $307,800 for a new playground at Marion Cross Elementary School. Last year, voters approved a $6.6 million school budget.
Voters also approved a town operating budget of $5.5 million, which is up from the $4.9 million budget voters approved last year.
