North Pomfret Woman Pleads Not Guilty to Drug, Child Cruelty Charges

Hartford — Hartford — A 32-year-old North Pomfret woman has pleaded not guilty to child cruelty, drug and other charges in connection with an alleged incident on Oct. 7.

Police say they caught Stephanie Hewitt in the middle of a drug sale, causing her to flee to a nearby residence. When she did, she left her three small children in the car, according to a Hartford police news release.

She allegedly possessed 3.5 grams of crack cocaine.

She pleaded not guilty on Monday to cocaine sale, cocaine possession, simple assault on a law enforcement officer, cruelty to a child, unlawful trespass, resisting arrest and violating her conditions of release.

Hewitt posted a $5,000 bond and remains out on conditions. She has a status conference on Nov. 14.
