WHITE RIVER JUNCTION — The Upper Valley Nighthawks got back in the NECBL win column Saturday, defeating the North Shore Navigators, 10-4, at Maxfield Sports Complex.
The Nighthawks (21-15) trail the Keene Swamp Bats by two games in the Northern Division entering the final week of the regular season. The Navigators (16-15-2) sit in fourth place, 4½ games out.
North Shore took a 1-0 lead in the third inning, but Upper Valley erupted in the bottom half of the inning with six runs, five of which scored with two outs. The Nighthawks tacked on three runs in the fourth inning and one more in the sixth.
Five Nighthawks finished with two-hit games. Right fielder Parker Haskin (Elon) recorded a double, a single, a walk and two runs scored. Shortstop Max Viera (Northeastern) finished 2-for-4 with one RBI and two runs. Left fielder Alan Roden (Creighton) chipped in a solo home run in his multi-hit effort. Third baseman Gehrig Anglin (Wright State) posted a team-high three RBIs, as well as a double, two walks and a run. First baseman Will Sullivan (Troy) finished 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run.
Alex Theis (Wright State) gave the Nighthawks five solid innings of work on the mound. He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while racking up 12 strikeouts.
The Nighthawks hit the road Sunday to take on the North Adams SteepleCats at Joe Wolfe Field.
