SANFORD, Maine — The Upper Valley Nighthawks snapped a four-game winning streak Tuesday with a 10-1 loss to the Sanford Mainers at Goodall Park.
The Nighthawks (19-13) now trail the Keene Swamp Bats by one game in the NECBL Northern Division standings.
Upper Valley took the lead in the top of the first inning on a solo home run by left fielder Alan Roden (Creighton). But the Mainers (10-19) tied it in the bottom of the inning and took a 5-1 lead in the second.
Nighthawks starter Jack Keenan (Marist) lasted four innings, giving up those five earned runs on seven hits and three walks. He struck out three Mainers batters.
The Nighthawks’ offense struggled throughout the game, collecting just five hits.
The Mainers put up five runs in the sixth inning to put the game out of reach. They tagged Nighthawks reliever Tyler Spitzbarth (Valdosta State) for three earned runs, and then scored the final two against Cole Garrett (Liberty) after a pitching change.
The Nighthawks continue a four-game homestand with a Friday visit from first-place Keene. First pitch is 6 p.m.
