NORTH ADAMS, Mass. — The Upper Valley Nighthawks dropped their fourth out of six games on Monday as the North Adams SteepleCats pulled out a 9-8 victory in 10 innings at Joe Wolfe Field.

The Nighthawks (10-8) brought first baseman Will Sullivan (Troy) in to pitch for the 10th inning of an 8-8 game. The SteepleCats (8-7-2) scored the winning run on an RBI single by designated hitter Jeremy Lea (Pacific).

Upper Valley led, 8-5, through six innings but couldn’t maintain the edge. North Adams got one run back in the seventh inning, then tied the game in the bottom of the ninth.

Jack Keenan (Marist) started on the mound for the Nighthawks, lasting 2⅔ innings and giving up four earned runs on two hits and four walks with two strikeouts. Tyler Spitzbarth (Valdosta State), Zane Kmietek (Marist) and Henry Leake (Boston College) all pitched in relief, along with Sullivan. Spitzbarth was the only pitcher to not give up a run.

Second baseman Max Viera (St. Joseph’s) finished 3-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored. Catcher Raphael Pelletier (Kansas State) went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Third baseman Gehrig Anglin (Wright State) went 2-for-5 with a walk and a run.

The Nighthawks are home at Maxfield Sports Complex on Wednesday to face the Sanford Mainers.

Correction

The Upper Valley Nighthawks’ 9-8 loss to the North Adams SteepleCats on Monday came after a win over Vermont on Saturday and was their fourth loss in six games. An earlier version of this story misrepresented the team’s recent record.
