LYNN, Mass. — The Upper Valley Nighthawks defeated the North Shore Navigators, 5-3, on Wednesday in New England College Baseball League action at Fraser Field.
The win is Upper Valley’s third in four games to open the 2021 campaign.
The Nighthawks took a 2-0 lead in the second inning. They scored all five runs by the fourth. The Navigators scored all of their runs in the sixth, all against Nighthawks pitcher Randall Alejo (St. Rose).
Jace Kaminska had a strong start on the mound for the Nighthawks. The Wichita State sophomore threw five perfect innings with six strikeouts. Nick Cantone (Marist) pitched 3⅔ shutout innings in relief of Alejo, who followed Kaminska.
At the plate, shortstop Luca Trigiani (St. Joseph’s) recorded a team-high three hits, finishing 3-for-4 with one run scored. Left fielder Andrew Walker (Xavier) went 2-for-3 in the leadoff spot with two walks and a double. Right fielder William Sullivan (Troy) went 2-for-5 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Catcher Parker Haskin (Elon) recorded a 2-for-4 game with a double, an RBI and a run.
The Nighthawks will remain on the road Thursday to take on the Vermont Mountaineers.
